SAP BTP Development & Extensions
SAP Business Technology Platform is the foundation that connects, extends and enriches every SAP system. Integration Suite connects S/4HANA to third-party systems. SAP Build delivers low-code apps, automation and portals. HANA Cloud manages data. CAP and ABAP on BTP extend the SAP application without modifying the core. 2iSolutions builds on SAP BTP across all four capability areas — as a SAP Gold Partner with four proprietary BTP applications already running in live client operations.
What SAP BTP is — four capability pillars, one platform
SAP BTP is not a single product — it is a platform with four distinct capability areas. Each pillar is a set of services available on BTP; each can be used independently or in combination depending on what the business needs.
Build — Apps & Extensions
Building apps and extending SAP without modifying core — custom Fiori apps, CAP-based extensions, low-code apps via SAP Build, workflow automation and BTP portal experiences.
- SAP Build Apps (low-code)
- SAP Build Work Zone (portal)
- SAP Build Process Automation
- Custom Fiori / SAPUI5
- CAP (Node.js / Java)
- ABAP on BTP
Integrate — Systems & Processes
Connecting SAP to non-SAP systems and enabling seamless data flow across the application landscape via pre-built adapters, iFlows and API management.

- SAP Datasphere (data fabric)
- SAP Analytics Cloud (BI & planning)
- Data Integration
- Data Marketplace
- Business Data Cloud
AI & Automation
Embedding intelligence into business processes — custom ML models, pre-built AI services for document processing and text analysis, and intelligent process automation on BTP.
- SAP AI Core (ML models)
- SAP AI Launchpad
- Document Info Extraction
- Business Entity Recognition
- SAP Intelligent RPA
- Joule (SAP copilot)
Clean Core principle: BTP is where all SAP extensions live in modern S/4HANA landscapes. No modifications to S/4HANA core ABAP — every custom capability, integration and automation is built on BTP, keeping the core clean and upgrade-safe.
SAP Integration Suite — connecting SAP to your wider landscape
SAP Integration Suite is BTP's integration platform — providing pre-built adapters, iFlow development tools and API management for connecting S/4HANA, Business One and other SAP systems to third-party applications. Every integration scenario below is regularly implemented by 2iSolutions.
Building SAP extensions on BTP — what we develop
Custom Fiori Apps on BTP
SAPUI5 and Fiori Elements applications hosted on BTP's HTML5 Application Repository — for internal use via SAP Work Zone or for external users (dealers, suppliers, customers) via BTP's public endpoints. All using Destination Service to connect to S/4HANA APIs securely without exposing the backend system.
SAP Build Apps & Work Zone
Low-code app development using SAP Build Apps — business applications built without SAPUI5 coding for internal use cases where speed matters more than complexity. SAP Build Work Zone configures the enterprise portal — the landing page that integrates Fiori apps, third-party apps and SAP Build apps into one user experience.
SAP Build Process Automation
Workflow automation and RPA on BTP — approval processes, document routing, notification sequences and bot-based automation for repetitive tasks. Pre-built content packages for common S/4HANA processes accelerate delivery; custom workflows built for processes not covered by standard packages.
CAP — Cloud Application Programming Model
Building cloud-native extensions on BTP using SAP's CAP framework (Node.js or Java) — OData services, business logic, persistence in SAP HANA Cloud and SAP-managed deployment. CAP is the preferred approach for complex BTP extensions that need full application logic, database schema and API endpoints beyond what low-code tools support.
HANA Cloud Development
Building applications on SAP HANA Cloud — the cloud-native, multi-model database on BTP. HANA Cloud is used for custom data models that extend S/4HANA, for storing extension application data, for federated access to remote data sources via HANA's data virtualisation, and as the persistence layer for CAP-based BTP extensions.
BTP AI & Document Services
Integrating SAP BTP's AI services into business processes — Document Information Extraction for automated invoice capture, Business Entity Recognition for text classification, and SAP AI Core for custom ML model deployment. Connected to S/4HANA via Integration Suite or direct API calls from CAP extensions.
Choosing the right BTP development approach — CAP, ABAP on BTP or SAP Build
Three distinct development models exist on SAP BTP — each appropriate for different scenarios. Choosing the wrong one creates technical debt and maintenance overhead that surfaces within a year of go-live.
CAP — Cloud Application Programming Model
SAP's recommended framework for building cloud-native BTP extensions — Node.js or Java, OData services, HANA Cloud persistence. Best for complex extensions with custom data models, significant business logic and external API integration that needs full programmatic control.
- Node.js or Java runtime on BTP
- CDS data model definition
- OData v4 service generation
- HANA Cloud persistence
- Event-driven architecture support
- Integrates with SAP Graph and API Hub
- Best for: complex multi-tenant extensions, partner solutions
ABAP on BTP (ABAP Cloud)
ABAP development environment on SAP BTP — same ABAP language, but running on BTP's managed infrastructure with full Clean Core compliance. Suitable for teams with deep ABAP expertise building extensions that closely mirror S/4HANA's data model and business logic.
- ABAP language — same as S/4HANA core
- RAP framework for OData services
- Tight integration with S/4HANA data
- Managed ABAP runtime on BTP
- Eclipse ADT development environment
- Restricted ABAP — no direct DB access
- Best for: ABAP-skilled teams, S/4HANA-adjacent extensions
SAP Build Apps — the third option — is the right choice when business users need to build or configure simple apps without developer involvement, or when speed-to-prototype matters more than technical depth. We recommend SAP Build Apps for internal departmental tools and rapid prototyping; CAP or ABAP on BTP for production-grade extensions that carry business-critical data.
2iSolutions proprietary applications on SAP BTP — production-grade, live in client operations
Our BTP development practice is not theoretical. We have built four production applications on SAP BTP that run in live client operations — using the same SAPUI5, CAP, Integration Suite and HANA Cloud stack that we apply to every client BTP engagement.
DealerConnect
A dealer and channel partner self-service portal on SAP BTP — enabling dealers to place orders at agreed pricing, view scheme and incentive availability, track secondary sales and access outstanding account statements in real time against S/4HANA data.
- SAPUI5 frontend on HTML5 App Repository
- OData connection to S/4HANA via Destination Service
- XSUAA / IAM for dealer user management
- Mobile-responsive — field sales use on tablet
ShopConnect
A shop floor MES-lite application on SAP BTP connecting production operators to S/4HANA manufacturing orders — work order queues, time confirmations, goods issue, quality recording and production progress tracking from a tablet-optimised interface.
- Tablet-first Fiori interface
- Barcode scanner integration
- Real-time S/4HANA production order status
- Offline capability with sync on reconnect
SupplierConnect
A supplier collaboration portal on SAP BTP — vendors acknowledge purchase orders, confirm delivery dates, upload certificates and ASNs, view GRN status and access account statements without requiring S/4HANA user credentials or exposing the ERP system externally.
- External user access via BTP Identity Authentication
- Document upload to SAP Document Management
- Real-time PO and GRN status from S/4HANA
- Email notification integration
ServiceConnect
A post-sale service and warranty management application on SAP BTP — enabling service partners and customers to log complaints, track service requests, manage spare parts consumption and generate warranty certificates against S/4HANA CS (Customer Service) module data.
- Service order creation from portal
- Spare parts availability from S/4HANA inventory
- Warranty certificate generation (PDF)
- Customer-facing complaint tracking
Why this matters for clients: Every BTP app we build for a client uses the same architecture as these four products — not a first attempt. The authentication patterns, Destination Service configuration, SAPUI5 component structure and HANA Cloud schema design are production-tested, not prototyped.
What makes our SAP BTP practice different
Product-Grade BTP Development
DealerConnect, ShopConnect, SupplierConnect and ServiceConnect are production applications — not portfolio demonstrations. Every BTP engagement uses the architecture, patterns and practices proven in these four products. Clients get product-grade delivery; not first-attempt development quality.
Full Stack — Integration + Extension + Data
BTP projects frequently span all three pillars — an external portal (Build) that integrates with S/4HANA (Integrate) and stores data in HANA Cloud (Data). We cover all three in one team — not a separate integration partner, a separate Fiori partner and a separate HANA partner coordinated across a project boundary.
S/4HANA Functional Knowledge Behind BTP
A BTP extension that exposes the wrong S/4HANA data or misunderstands the business process it's extending will fail in UAT regardless of technical quality. Our BTP developers work alongside functional S/4HANA consultants — the integration between the BTP layer and the S/4HANA backend is designed with an understanding of both sides.
Clean Core Enforcement
Every extension is built on BTP — no modifications to S/4HANA core ABAP, no use of deprecated extension patterns. Clean Core compliance protects the upgrade path: every S/4HANA quarterly update (Public Edition) or support package (Private Edition) applies cleanly because nothing in the core was changed.
SAP Gold Partner — BTP Certified
BTP Gold Partnership gives access to SAP's BTP partner development tools, early access to new BTP services before public availability, direct SAP BTP technical support escalation and the SAP partner ecosystem for co-innovation. Not all SAP partners are BTP-certified; certification requires demonstrated delivery capability across BTP's service catalogue.
BTP Apps Maintained Under AMS
BTP applications need ongoing maintenance — XSUAA configuration changes as users join or leave, Destination Service updates when S/4HANA connectivity changes, CAP service updates as the underlying S/4HANA API evolves. We maintain BTP applications under the same AMS contract as the S/4HANA system — one team, one contract, no maintenance gap.
SAP BTP development from a certified Gold Partner with four production applications in live operations
Our BTP practice spans Integration Suite, SAP Build, CAP, ABAP on BTP and HANA Cloud — across manufacturing, distribution, high tech, pharma and real estate clients in India and internationally.
SAP BTP development & extensions: frequently asked questions
What is SAP BTP and how does it relate to S/4HANA?
SAP Business Technology Platform is the cloud platform that sits alongside S/4HANA — providing integration (connecting S/4HANA to other systems), extension (building custom apps and automations without modifying S/4HANA core), data management (HANA Cloud, Datasphere) and AI services. BTP is where all customisation and extension happens in modern SAP landscapes — the "Clean Core" principle keeps S/4HANA standard and puts all custom capability on BTP. Most RISE with SAP and GROW with SAP subscriptions include BTP credits for this reason.
What is SAP Integration Suite and when do we need it?
SAP Integration Suite is BTP's integration platform — providing pre-built adapters (for Salesforce, Workday, Microsoft, logistics providers, payment gateways and more), iFlow development tools for custom integrations, API management and event-based messaging. You need Integration Suite when S/4HANA needs to exchange data with other systems — payment gateways, logistics platforms, e-commerce systems, HR tools, government portals (GST e-invoicing) or IoT data streams. It replaces point-to-point integrations with a managed, monitored hub.
What is the CAP framework and when should we use it over SAP Build?
CAP (Cloud Application Programming Model) is SAP's framework for building production-grade cloud extensions in Node.js or Java — with a CDS data model, OData v4 services, HANA Cloud persistence and full programmatic control. Use CAP when the extension has complex business logic, custom data models, external API integration or will carry business-critical data at scale. SAP Build Apps is the right choice when business users need to prototype or build simple departmental tools quickly without a development team involved.
Can BTP applications access S/4HANA data securely?
Yes — SAP BTP's Destination Service provides a managed, encrypted connection to S/4HANA via the SAP Cloud Connector for on-premise systems, or directly via SAP API Management for cloud-based S/4HANA. The BTP application calls S/4HANA's OData or REST APIs through this destination — the S/4HANA system is never directly exposed to external users. BTP's XSUAA manages authentication and authorisation for BTP-hosted apps; the S/4HANA backend verifies the calling user's authorisations through the API layer.
Do BTP extensions break when S/4HANA is updated?
Well-built BTP extensions are version-agnostic — they consume S/4HANA's stable public APIs (OData services published in SAP API Business Hub), not internal ABAP function modules. When S/4HANA is updated, the public APIs maintain backward compatibility for a defined period; extensions consuming stable APIs are unaffected. Extensions built against undocumented internal APIs break on updates — which is why API-first design against SAP's published API catalogue is not optional.
What BTP services are included in RISE and GROW with SAP?
Both RISE and GROW include BTP credits — an allocation of BTP service consumption that covers standard integration and extension use cases. The specific services and quantities depend on the RISE/GROW edition and subscription size. Common inclusions: Integration Suite entitlements, SAP Build Apps and Process Automation capacity, Work Zone standard edition, and initial HANA Cloud storage. Additional BTP capacity is available as a paid add-on when the included allocation is insufficient for the integration and extension scope of the implementation.
Planning a BTP integration, extension or portal — or want to understand what BTP credits included in your RISE/GROW subscription cover?
A BTP scoping conversation — covering your integration requirements, extension needs and current BTP allocation — is the right starting point before committing development effort to a BTP project.
