For the vast majority of use cases, yes. SAC stories cover interactive dashboards, formatted reports, ad-hoc analysis (Data Analyzer) and mobile consumption. The migration is a programme: most organisations have hundreds of BEx queries and WebI documents, 30–50% of which are unused or duplicated. Our approach starts with inventory and usage analysis — retire dead content, consolidate duplicates, migrate remaining content in priority order. Highly formatted pixel-perfect operational outputs (invoices, statutory returns, packing lists) may need Crystal Reports or an alternative, which we flag during the assessment rather than discovering mid-migration. SAC is SAP's strategic analytics platform and receives quarterly feature updates; BEx and BusinessObjects are in maintenance — so the investment direction is clear.

Just Ask is SAC's natural language query interface — users type a question in plain English (or other supported languages) and SAC generates a chart or table to answer it. "Show me revenue by region for Q3" produces a bar chart immediately, without the user needing to know which query or data source to use. Smart Insights takes AI further: click any data point on a chart and SAC automatically identifies the top drivers that caused the value — for example, "revenue increased 14% driven primarily by a 22% increase in Region North, partially offset by a 3% decline in Region West." This replaces the manual drill-down and investigation that analysts currently do in Excel. In nearly every case, yes — and the root causes are predictable. Common culprits: stories with too many widgets querying on initial load (every widget fires a separate query), BW queries returning excessive cell counts through live connections, missing or overly broad default filters forcing full data scans, complex calculated measures evaluated at render time, and un-optimised CDS views behind S/4HANA live connections. Our SAC performance engagement profiles each story end to end — measuring time in SAC rendering, time in network transit and time in source-system query execution — then remediates in impact order: query redesign, story restructuring (lazy-loading tabs, splitting overloaded stories), filter strategy, and where needed, data model adjustments. SAC is a core component of SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) — BDC bundles Datasphere, SAC, Databricks and Object Store into one subscription. Going forward, SAP will not sell SAC separately. SAC is designed for self-service — the interface is deliberately visual and drag-and-drop. A trained business analyst can build a new story, add chart widgets, connect to an existing live model, apply filters and publish for their team within an hour. But "self-service" requires two things most deployments skip: a governance framework (who can publish what to which folder, using which data models) and structured training (not a one-day workshop, but hands-on creation of real stories using real company data). Without both, self-service becomes either chaos (100 uncontrolled stories using different data sources) or abandonment (users revert to Excel because they were never properly enabled).
