Odoo Manufacturing Solutions
Odoo's manufacturing suite covers the full production lifecycle — from demand-driven material planning and multi-level bill of materials through work order execution, real-time shop floor tracking, quality control and maintenance — all integrated natively with inventory, purchasing, sales and accounting in one platform. For SME and mid-size manufacturers, Odoo delivers the manufacturing management capability that previously required dedicated MES and MRP systems.
What Odoo Manufacturing delivers
Odoo Manufacturing is not a standalone module — it shares the same data model as Inventory, Purchase, Sales and Accounting. A production order consuming raw materials updates inventory in real time. A finished goods completion creates the stock valuation entry automatically. No synchronisation lag, no manual transfers between systems.
Bills of Materials & Routing
Multi-level BOMs with components, sub-assemblies and phantom assemblies. Operations and routings tied to work centres with cycle times, setup times and capacity constraints. BOM versioning for engineering changes — old orders run on the BOM they were created with, new orders pick up the latest version automatically.
MRP & Production Planning
The MRP scheduler reads demand (sales orders, reorder rules, forecasts), checks current stock and open purchase orders, and generates replenishment proposals — purchase orders for bought-out components, manufacturing orders for produced items. Run on demand or on a schedule; review, modify and confirm in one screen.
Manufacturing Orders & Work Orders
Manufacturing orders created from MRP, sales orders (MTO) or manually. Work orders generated per routing operation and dispatched to work centres. Real-time status across the production floor — what's planned, what's in progress, what's waiting for material and what's done.
Quality Control
Quality control points configured on any manufacturing operation — incoming goods receipt, in-process checks, final product inspection. Quality alerts raised on failures, non-conformances tracked with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) workflows. Lot and serial number traceability linked to quality records for full audit trail.
Maintenance Management
Preventive maintenance schedules configured per machine or work centre — daily, weekly, by usage hours or by production count. Corrective maintenance requests raised from the shop floor or from Odoo's helpdesk. Equipment registry with maintenance history, mean time between failures and maintenance cost tracking.
Fully Integrated with the Rest of Odoo
Manufacturing in Odoo is not a standalone module — it shares data with Inventory (real-time stock), Purchase (replenishment proposals), Sales (MTO production), Accounting (cost of goods manufactured) and Quality. No integration tax, no manual data transfer, no reconciliation between separate systems.
Odoo manufacturing modules — what's included
Odoo's manufacturing capability is spread across several interconnected modules. We configure and implement all of them as part of an Odoo Manufacturing solution.
Manufacturing (MRP)
The core module — BOMs, routings, manufacturing orders, work orders, scrap management, unbuild and by-product handling.
Master Production Schedule
Demand forecasting and medium-term production planning — separate from MRP's short-term replenishment, used for capacity planning and long-lead-time components.
Quality
Quality control points, quality checks, quality alerts, non-conformance management and CAPA — integrated into manufacturing operations at every process step.
Maintenance
Equipment registry, preventive maintenance schedules, corrective maintenance requests, maintenance work orders and downtime tracking per machine.
Inventory (Manufacturing)
Lot and serial number tracking, FEFO/FIFO picking for production, raw material reservations against manufacturing orders, WIP tracking and finished goods receipts.
Purchase (MRP-linked)
Replenishment proposals from MRP converted to RFQs or purchase orders in one click. Vendor lead times feed MRP scheduling. Inward quality checks on receipt.
Work Centre Scheduling
Capacity planning per work centre — available hours, efficiency factors, OEE tracking and bottleneck identification. Gantt view of production schedule with drag-and-drop rescheduling.
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
Engineering change orders, BOM version management, document management for product specifications, and approval workflows for changes before they go live in production.
Barcode & Tablet Interface
Shop floor workers record completions, scrap, lot numbers and quality checks via tablet or barcode scanner — no desktop ERP access required. Real-time updates to manufacturing orders and inventory.
How Odoo handles different manufacturing modes
Odoo supports all common manufacturing scenarios — and most operations run more than one simultaneously. The configuration differs per scenario; the system is the same.
MTO — Customer-Specific Production
Manufacturing orders created automatically from confirmed sales orders. Components reserved specifically for that order, not from general stock. Delivery blocked until production is complete. The production order and the sales order are linked — giving sales teams real-time visibility of production status without calling the factory.
MTS — Stock Replenishment Production
MRP generates manufacturing orders to maintain finished goods stock levels based on reorder points, safety stock rules or forecasts. Production runs to replenish inventory, not tied to specific customer orders. Costing at standard or average — actual production costs compared to standard at work order close.
MTO + MTS in the Same Plant
Different products on different replenishment rules — some MTO for custom orders, some MTS for standard stock items — all running simultaneously on the same Odoo instance. Route configuration per product or per product category determines which logic applies without manual intervention at order time.
Subcontract Manufacturing
Odoo's subcontracting feature manages the full subcontract cycle — send components to subcontractor, receive finished goods, automatically post the subcontractor's work as a manufacturing step. Lot traceability maintained through the subcontract. Quality checks on inward finished goods from the subcontractor.
Formula-Based & Batch Production
For food, chemicals, pharma intermediates and other process manufacturers — BOM as a formula with variable yield, batch-level lot tracking from raw material to finished product, FEFO picking for ingredients, and shelf-life management on raw materials and finished goods.
Kit Assembly & Kitting
Product kits assembled from components at the point of sales order confirmation — no separate manufacturing order created. Useful for products that are picked, packed and shipped as a set. Full component-level inventory deduction and cost aggregation at kit delivery.
Odoo's shop floor interface — built for the production floor, not the office
Odoo's tablet-based shop floor interface gives production workers a purpose-built screen for their work — without needing to navigate the full Odoo desktop application.
Work Order Queue per Work Centre
Each work centre has its own queue — workers see only the work orders assigned to their station, in priority order. No scheduling board, no daily production sheet — the system tells them what to do next.
Start / Pause / Complete with Time Tracking
Workers tap Start when production begins, Pause for breaks or material waits, Complete when done. Time logged automatically per work order — actual vs. planned cycle time visible to production managers in real time without manual timesheets.
Lot and Serial Number Recording
Workers scan or enter the lot/serial number of the finished product at completion — recorded against the manufacturing order and linked to the component lots consumed. Full forward and backward traceability maintained without paper records.
Quality Checks at the Point of Production
Quality check prompts appear on the shop floor screen at the configured process step — workers enter measurements, pass/fail and observations directly. No separate quality sheet, no transcription to the ERP later.
Scrap and Rework Recording
Workers record scrap quantities and reasons directly from the shop floor screen. Scrap posts to the scrap location in inventory automatically. Rework orders created from the same interface without needing access to the back office.
What a production manager sees — in real time
- How many work orders are in queue at each work centre
- Which orders are running and since when
- Which orders are blocked — and why (material shortage, quality hold, machine down)
- Actual vs. planned cycle time per work centre
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) per machine
- Scrap rate by product, work centre or operator
- Quality check failures and open non-conformances
- Maintenance requests raised from the floor
All of this is visible without calling the shop floor, walking to a notice board or waiting for a shift report. It updates as workers tap their screens.

What makes our Odoo Manufacturing implementations work
Official Odoo Partner — Manufacturing Certified
We are a certified official Odoo partner with specific experience implementing the Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance and MPS modules across multiple industries. Not every Odoo partner has implemented manufacturing depth; we have.
Industry Knowledge, Not Just Module Knowledge
We understand how discrete, process and mixed-mode manufacturing operations actually run — the difference between routing-based and operation-based BOMs, when subcontracting is appropriate, how batch traceability needs to work for pharma vs. food vs. chemicals. Module configuration follows from industry understanding, not the other way around.
Shop Floor First, Not Office First
A manufacturing ERP that production workers won't use is useless regardless of how well the office modules are configured. We design the shop floor experience as part of the implementation scope — tablet interface, barcode scanning, work order queue — and train production staff alongside office users.
Custom Manufacturing Extensions
Where standard Odoo Manufacturing doesn't cover an industry-specific requirement — deckle plan optimisation for paper, recipe management for chemicals, die tracking for rubber — we build the custom module using Odoo's native framework, upgrade-safe and documented.
Integration with Production Equipment
Barcode scanners, weighing scales, production counters and IoT sensors integrated with Odoo Manufacturing — so production data flows from the machine to the ERP automatically rather than being manually entered at end of shift.
Post-Go-Live Manufacturing Support
Manufacturing ERP issues on the production floor need same-day resolution — a blocked manufacturing order or a broken MRP run isn't a low-priority ticket. Our Odoo AMC covers manufacturing module incidents at elevated priority, with the functional consultant who configured your system handling the resolution.
Odoo Manufacturing implementations across nine industries
We have implemented Odoo Manufacturing for companies across discrete manufacturing, CPG, chemicals, textiles, high tech, rubber, automotive, pharma and paper — with the industry-specific configuration and extensions each sector requires.
Odoo Manufacturing: frequently asked questions
Does Odoo support both Make-to-Order and Make-to-Stock in the same company?
Yes — Odoo handles MTO and MTS simultaneously using route configuration per product or product category. MTO products create a manufacturing order automatically when a sales order is confirmed and link the two together. MTS products are replenished by MRP based on reorder rules and safety stock levels. Most manufacturing companies run both modes at the same time without any conflict.
How does Odoo's MRP work and what does it plan?
Odoo's MRP scheduler reads all demand signals — confirmed sales orders, forecast demand, minimum stock rules — and compares them against current inventory, open purchase orders and open manufacturing orders. It then generates replenishment proposals: purchase orders for bought-out items and manufacturing orders for produced items. Proposals are reviewed before confirmation — MRP suggests; your planners decide. The MPS module extends this with medium-term demand planning for capacity and long-lead-time components.
Does Odoo work for process manufacturing (food, chemicals, pharma)?
Yes — Odoo's manufacturing module supports formula-based BOMs with variable yield, batch-level production, co-product and by-product handling, and lot traceability from raw material to finished product. For food and pharma, the Quality module adds shelf-life management, FEFO picking and certificate of analysis generation. For chemicals, formula confidentiality is managed through Odoo's role-based access controls.
Can production workers use Odoo on a tablet on the shop floor?
Yes — Odoo's shop floor module provides a touch-optimised tablet interface for production workers. Workers see their work order queue for their work centre, tap to start and complete operations, scan lot numbers, record scrap and complete quality checks — all without navigating the desktop Odoo interface. Updates to manufacturing orders, inventory and production time logs happen in real time as workers interact with the tablet.
How does Odoo handle lot and serial number traceability in manufacturing?
Lot and serial number tracking is configured per product — some products tracked at lot level (batches), others at serial number level (individual units). When a manufacturing order is completed, the component lots consumed and the finished product lot/serial produced are linked. The traceability report shows the full upstream (which raw material lots went into this product) and downstream (which customer got this lot) chain — forward and backward from any point in the supply chain.
How long does an Odoo Manufacturing implementation take?
A focused Odoo Manufacturing implementation — covering MRP, BOMs, routings, work orders, shop floor interface and inventory integration — typically goes live in 4–8 weeks for a single-site operation with standard requirements. Adding Quality, Maintenance, MPS or significant custom development extends this to 8–12 weeks. The timeline is driven primarily by data preparation (BOMs, routings, opening stock) and the complexity of any custom extensions needed for industry-specific requirements.
