SAP Activate Methodology

How we implement — SAP Activate, from Discover to Run

SAP Activate is the official SAP implementation methodology — six phases, defined deliverables and built-in quality gates. Every 2iSolutions implementation follows it, adapted for project size and deployment model. It is why our average go-live is 88 days: the methodology is not reinvented per project.

Implementation Scope

What every 2iSolutions SAP implementation includes

These are the components of every implementation engagement — not optional add-ons or separate statements of work. Implementation that omits any of these produces a system that is live but not adopted, integrated but not stable, or configured but not validated.

Standard Implementation Deliverables Every engagement · No optional carve-outs
01

SAP System Configuration

Enterprise structure, organisation data, master data configuration, process configuration and validation of every in-scope module across Finance, Procurement, Sales, Manufacturing and any additional modules agreed in scope.

02

Custom Development

Custom reports, forms (output types), ABAP programmes, Fiori applications and user exits — scoped and estimated during Explore, built and tested during Realize, transported through the landscape and signed off during UAT.

03

Data Migration

Migration objects mapped, legacy data extracted, cleansed and validated, mock loads executed in QA (minimum two), data quality issues returned to the business for correction, and a production cutover load that is the exact same process as the tested mock — no surprises.

04

Integration Development

Every interface between SAP and non-SAP systems — bank connections, e-invoice portals, third-party logistics, CRM, e-commerce, IoT — designed, developed, tested in integration test cycles and validated end-to-end before go-live. Interfaces are tested; not assumed to work at go-live.

05

User Training

Role-based training designed for the specific configuration of your implementation — not generic SAP training. Train-the-trainer for client teams who will own ongoing training, plus end-user classroom or e-learning for the go-live cohort. Training material delivered and retained post go-live.

06

Testing — Three Cycles

Unit testing (configuration team), integration testing (cross-stream, cross-system) and user acceptance testing (business users, real scenarios). Each cycle has documented test cases, defect tracking, sign-off criteria and a go/no-go gate before the next cycle begins.

07

Go-Live Support & Hypercare

Go-live day on-site support from all functional and technical streams. Four-week hypercare period — priority response on all issues, daily status calls, defect triage and resolution. Hypercare transitions to AMS — the go-live team does not disappear the day after launch.

08

India Localisation

GST (CGST/SGST/IGST), e-Invoice and e-Way Bill compliance, TDS and TCS configurations, India-specific reports (GSTR1, GSTR3B, TDS returns), foreign payment compliance and India chart of accounts — configured, tested and compliant at go-live, not patched post-launch.

Industry Experience

Industries we implement SAP for — depth, not breadth

SAP implementations for manufacturing companies require different configuration, different data migration logic and different integration patterns than implementations for distribution or professional services. Our industry coverage is built from completed projects, not sales positioning.

Why 2iSolutions

What makes our SAP implementation practice different

88-Day Go-Live — Measured, Not Marketed

Our 88-day S/4HANA average is derived from completed GROW with SAP implementations using Fit-to-Standard methodology with pre-built industry process templates. It is not a headline for a single fast project. The speed comes from methodology discipline: scope frozen in Explore, configuration standardised in Realize and go-live criteria defined before Deploy begins — not from cutting testing or compressing training.

Fit-to-Standard First — Not Fit-to-Legacy

Every Explore phase starts by demonstrating SAP Best Practice — what the standard system does — before entertaining custom development requests. This single discipline is the primary driver of implementation speed and post go-live stability. Custom code that replicates legacy processes is not an improvement; it is legacy system rebuilding on SAP. We distinguish between necessary custom development and process alignment to SAP standards.

India Localisation Without Patches

GST, e-Invoice, e-Way Bill, TDS, TCS and India-specific statutory reports are configured, tested and compliant before go-live — not remediated after go-live when compliance failures surface in the first month of live operation. Our India localisation team maintains the configuration across SAP's statutory updates so compliance remains current without emergency patches.

Implementation Team Stays Post Go-Live

The consultants who configured your Finance module do not disappear at go-live and hand the system to a support team that has never seen it. Our AMS practice is designed for continuity — the implementation team transitions to hypercare and then to the managed support team with full configuration knowledge. The first support call after go-live is handled by someone who configured what you're calling about.

Multi-Deployment Expertise — Not One Product

We implement S/4HANA on-premise, GROW with SAP public cloud, RISE with SAP private cloud and SAP Business One. This means we advise on deployment model before implementation scope is committed — not after commercial commitments are made that constrain the technical recommendation. The right deployment model for your organisation is assessed at Discover, not assumed.

98% On-Time Delivery — Project Governance

On-time delivery requires project governance, not just delivery capability. Our PMO framework for SAP implementations covers weekly status reporting, risk register management, change control for scope variations, escalation paths to client executive sponsors and go/no-go gate criteria at each phase transition. Projects slip when governance is absent; 98% on-time delivery is evidence that ours works.

FAQ

SAP implementation: frequently asked questions

Common questions from organisations evaluating an SAP implementation for the first time or comparing SAP deployment models.

GROW with SAP (public cloud) implementations using Fit-to-Standard methodology typically complete in 60–100 days for a mid-size company with standard processes and limited custom development. Our average across completed GROW implementations is 88 days. S/4HANA on-premise or RISE implementations with more complex process requirements, more custom development and more integration points take 6–18 months depending on scope. The primary drivers of implementation timeline are: volume of custom development (each custom object adds development, testing and transport time), number of integration points (each interface requires development, testing and end-to-end validation), data migration complexity (number of migration objects and quality of legacy data), and number of company codes or plant structures in scope. Fit-to-Standard workshops early in the project that freeze scope before configuration begins are the single most effective timeline management tool.

GROW with SAP is SAP's offering for mid-market companies adopting S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition — best-practice processes, SAP-managed multi-tenant cloud infrastructure, quarterly automatic updates, Joule AI and BTP credits. Clean core is enforced — extensions are built on BTP, not in the ABAP core. RISE with SAP is a migration and transformation offering designed for existing SAP customers moving to private cloud — S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition on SAP-managed infrastructure, with full S/4HANA functionality, ABAP extensibility and customer-controlled update cycles. GROW suits companies starting fresh or replacing a legacy non-SAP ERP; RISE suits companies moving an existing ECC or S/4HANA landscape to cloud infrastructure. Both include Signavio process intelligence and BTP credits.

SAP is configured, not used "out of the box" — you configure enterprise structure, chart of accounts, tax procedures, pricing conditions, MRP settings and many other parameters to match your business. This configuration is not customisation; it is setup. Customisation refers to bespoke ABAP code, custom reports, custom forms and modified standard SAP processes. In GROW with SAP (public cloud), customisation is architecturally restricted — extensions must be built on BTP, not in the ABAP core, which is intentional and enforced. In S/4HANA on-premise or RISE, customisation is technically unrestricted, but our Fit-to-Standard methodology distinguishes between genuinely necessary custom development (a legally mandated format, a process with no SAP equivalent) and customisation that replicates a legacy system habit that SAP standard handles differently. The latter type is the primary cause of high maintenance costs and upgrade difficulty.

Data migration involves extracting data from the legacy system (or spreadsheets), mapping it to SAP's data structures, cleansing it and loading it into SAP. Migration objects in a typical S/4HANA implementation include: chart of accounts and GL balances, customer and vendor master data, material master, open purchase orders, open sales orders, open payables and receivables, stock balances and fixed assets. For GROW with SAP we use SAP's Migration Cockpit with pre-built templates. For S/4HANA on-premise, SAP's Data Services or BAPI/LSMW approaches are used depending on object complexity. We run a minimum of two mock loads in QA before the production cutover load — the first to identify data quality issues, the second to validate corrections. The production load is the same process as the tested mock, which is why data migration surprises at go-live are preventable.

India localisation is a standard deliverable — not a separate charge. It covers: GST configuration (CGST, SGST, IGST, CESS) across all relevant tax categories; e-Invoice integration with the IRP (Invoice Registration Portal) for GST IRN generation; e-Way Bill integration; TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) configuration for vendor payments; TCS (Tax Collected at Source) configuration for qualifying customer receipts; India-specific statutory reports including GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, TDS returns; foreign exchange payment compliance (Form A2, 15CA/CB); and India chart of accounts aligned to Schedule III of the Companies Act. These are configured, tested and validated against actual statutory requirements — not based on SAP's generic India template without adaptation.

Every implementation includes a four-week hypercare period — dedicated support from the implementation team with priority response, daily status calls and immediate defect resolution. After hypercare, the system transitions to our Application Management Services (AMS) — managed support covering incident resolution, change requests, user support and ongoing optimisation. The transition is managed, not abrupt: the AMS team is involved during hypercare so they know the system before they own it. 88% of our implementation clients continue with 2iSolutions for AMS post go-live — the highest indicator that the implementation delivered what was committed.

Ready to evaluate SAP — or want to know which deployment model fits your organisation?

A 2-week SAP evaluation covering deployment model selection (GROW/RISE/on-premise/B1), scope definition, data migration complexity, integration requirements and a realistic go-live estimate — before any commercial commitment. The evaluation prevents the most common cause of implementation disappointment: scope that was never clearly defined.
