SAP HCM to SuccessFactors Migration Services
On-premise SAP HCM has served for two decades, but the runway is closing. Mainstream maintenance for SAP ERP 6.0 — including on-premise HCM — ends in 2027, with extended maintenance to 2030. SAP HCM for S/4HANA (H4S4) is a bridge, not a destination. SuccessFactors is where SAP invests its HR innovation: continuous cloud releases, embedded AI, mobile-first talent, and a data model built for a modern workforce.
Migration is not a lift-and-shift. Your PA and OM infotypes do not map one-to-one onto Employee Central foundation objects. Your on-premise payroll schemas, custom infotypes, and decades of effective-dated history all need decisions — what migrates, what transforms, what is archived, and what changes for the better. Done carelessly, a migration inherits every legacy compromise. Done well, it is the moment to fix them.
2iSolutions plans, builds and executes SAP HCM to SuccessFactors migrations as a SAP Gold Partner — from data extraction and mapping through Employee Central configuration, payroll parallel runs, cutover and hypercare. We deliver end to end because we understand both sides: the on-premise HCM data model you are leaving and the SuccessFactors world you are moving into.
How your on-premise SAP HCM data moves to SuccessFactors
Migration flows from the on-premise source, through an extraction, cleansing and mapping engine, into the SuccessFactors target — with reconciliation and validation at every stage. This is not a copy: infotype structures are transformed into Employee Central's object model, and every record is validated before it lands.
Six SAP HCM to SuccessFactors migration services
2iSolutions plans, builds, migrates, tests and supports the move from on-premise SAP HCM to SuccessFactors — with SAP-delivered migration content, proven data tooling and payroll parallel-run discipline.
Migration Assessment & Roadmap
Current-state analysis of your on-premise HCM landscape — modules in use, custom infotypes, payroll complexity, integration touchpoints and data quality. We recommend the right target model (full cloud, side-by-side or phased), scope the migration and produce a sequenced roadmap with realistic timelines and effort.
Data Migration & Mapping
The core of every migration: extracting PA, OM, PT and history data, cleansing it, and mapping infotype structures onto Employee Central foundation objects, generic objects (MDF) and effective-dated records. Iterative mock loads, validation reports and data-quality remediation until the target reconciles to source.
Employee Central Configuration
Building the target: foundation objects, position management, workflows, business rules, role-based permissions and the corporate data model — configured to reflect how you want HR to work in the cloud, not just a mirror of legacy on-premise settings. This is where a migration becomes an improvement.
Payroll Migration & Parallel Runs
Moving to EC Payroll, or designing a hybrid where on-premise payroll is retained and fed from EC. Wage type and schema migration, tax and statutory configuration, and — critically — parallel payroll runs across multiple cycles, reconciled to the cent, so no employee is ever paid incorrectly on cutover.
Testing, Cutover & Go-Live
End-to-end and integration testing, user acceptance testing, and a rehearsed cutover plan with clear go/no-go criteria. We run a dress-rehearsal cutover before the real one, freeze legacy data, execute the production migration in a controlled window and validate before opening the new system to users.
Hypercare & SuccessFactors AMS
Post-go-live hypercare when it matters most — the first payroll runs, the first month-end, the first quarterly release. Then a smooth handover to SLA-backed managed services: ongoing configuration, quarterly release management, integration monitoring and continuous improvement of your live SuccessFactors landscape.
Three ways to move — full cloud, side-by-side or phased
There is no single right answer. The best migration approach depends on your payroll complexity, appetite for change, country footprint and how much of the legacy landscape must remain. Choosing the model is the first major decision of every migration — and we make it with you, based on your reality, not a vendor default.
Full Cloud Migration
Employee Central plus EC Payroll and talent modules, with on-premise HCM fully retired. The cleanest end state and the lowest long-term cost — one cloud platform, continuous innovation, no legacy to maintain.
- Retire on-premise HCM entirely
- EC as single system of record
- Full talent suite adoption
- Best long-term TCO
Side-by-Side Model
Employee Central becomes the core HR system of record, while complex or highly localised payroll stays on SAP on-premise (or H4S4), fed by standard EC-to-ERP replication. Cloud core, proven payroll.
- EC core + retained SAP payroll
- Standard EC↔ERP integration
- Lower payroll migration risk
- Phase payroll to cloud later
Talent-First / Phased
Deploy SuccessFactors talent modules first for early value and adoption, then migrate the core HR and payroll to Employee Central in a later phase — spreading change, cost and risk across a managed programme.
- Talent modules deployed first
- Core HR migrated in later phase
- Change spread over time
- Early user adoption & value
A phased migration methodology built for zero surprises
We run migrations on SAP Activate, adapted for the specific risks of leaving on-premise HCM. Every phase has defined exit criteria — nothing moves forward until data reconciles, payroll matches and stakeholders sign off.

What our migration practice brings to a high-stakes transition
We Know the Source AND the Target
Most migration failures happen at the data-model boundary — a custom infotype with no clean home in Employee Central, or an OM structure that does not fit position management. Because our team has delivered both on-premise SAP HCM and SuccessFactors, we design mapping from deep knowledge of both sides, not guesswork about the system we are leaving.
Data Migration Is the Real Risk
Configuration is repeatable; data is where migrations quietly go wrong. We treat data as the critical path — profiling quality early, running multiple mock loads, producing reconciliation reports that prove target matches source, and cleansing legacy data rather than carrying decades of errors into a brand-new system.
Payroll Parallel Runs Are Non-Negotiable
No employee should ever be paid incorrectly because of a migration. We run legacy and new payroll in parallel across multiple cycles and reconcile results to the cent before cutover. If a wage type calculates differently, we find out in a test run — never on a real payslip.
One Team Through Cutover and Beyond
Migration does not end at go-live — the first payroll, first month-end and first quarterly release are where problems surface. The same team that built the migration runs hypercare and transitions you into SLA-backed managed services, so there is one point of accountability from assessment through steady-state operation.

HCM to SuccessFactors migration: questions we hear most
You are not forced to migrate immediately, but the runway is closing. Mainstream maintenance for SAP ERP 6.0 — which includes classic on-premise HCM — ends in 2027, with optional extended maintenance to 2030. SAP HCM for S/4HANA (H4S4) is a supported successor for organisations that must stay on-premise, with maintenance committed to 2040, but SAP is clear that SuccessFactors is the strategic HR platform where all new innovation, AI capability and continuous release investment goes. The practical answer: you do not need to move this quarter, but you should decide your target model and build a roadmap now, because a well-run migration is a multi-phase programme measured in quarters, not weeks — and starting under deadline pressure is the most expensive way to do it.
It depends primarily on payroll complexity and country footprint. Full cloud (Employee Central plus EC Payroll) gives the cleanest end state, lowest long-term cost and full innovation — it suits organisations with simpler or fewer country payrolls and a genuine appetite for cloud. The side-by-side model keeps EC as the HR core while retaining your proven SAP on-premise payroll (or H4S4), fed by standard EC-to-ERP replication; it de-risks the single hardest part of any migration and is often the right call for complex, highly localised, multi-country payroll. Many large organisations start side-by-side and migrate payroll to the cloud in a later phase once the core is stable. We assess your payroll landscape specifically and recommend the model that fits your risk profile — this decision is an output of our assessment, not a starting assumption.
A focused Employee Central core migration for a single country or a mid-size organisation typically runs 4–7 months. Adding EC Payroll with proper parallel runs extends timelines because parallel cycles must span at least two to three real pay periods, plus reconciliation — payroll almost always sets the critical path. A full multi-country programme with talent modules, EC Payroll and several integrations is usually a phased effort of 12–24 months. The variables that move timelines most are the number of payrolls, data quality in the legacy system, the volume of custom infotypes, and organisational readiness for change. We size every migration specifically in the assessment phase rather than quoting a generic number — but the single biggest driver is almost always payroll complexity.
Both need explicit decisions — this is exactly the work of the mapping and design phase. Custom (Z-) infotypes rarely map one-to-one; each is assessed to determine whether it becomes a generic object (MDF) in Employee Central, folds into a standard EC object, is replaced by a better-designed cloud construct, or is retired because it is no longer needed. For historical data, few organisations migrate all of it — carrying decades of effective-dated records into a new system adds cost and risk for limited value. A common pattern is to migrate current and recent effective-dated records into EC for operational use, and retain deeper history in an archive or the legacy system in read-only mode for reference and compliance. We define a clear data-retention scope with you early, so the migration carries what the business actually needs rather than everything by default.
Through parallel payroll runs — the single most important control in any payroll migration. Before cutover, we run the new payroll and the legacy payroll on the same input data across multiple pay cycles and reconcile the results line by line, employee by employee, to the cent. Any difference is investigated and resolved in the test environment — a wage type calculating differently, a tax rule mapped incorrectly, a retroactive scenario handled differently in the new engine. Only once parallel runs match for consecutive cycles do we approve payroll cutover. This is why payroll migrations take longer than core HR migrations: the parallel-run period is deliberately not rushed, because a payroll error that reaches real employees is the one outcome no migration can afford.
Migration is the best opportunity you will get to improve, and a straight lift-and-shift usually wastes it. Employee Central works differently from on-premise HCM — it is effective-dated, object-based, workflow-driven and configured through business rules rather than heavy custom development. Replicating every legacy workaround into the cloud simply inherits old compromises in a new system. Our approach is fit-to-standard first: we adopt SuccessFactors standard processes wherever they meet the need, and reserve configuration for genuine business-specific requirements. That said, improvement has to be balanced against scope and timeline — trying to redesign every HR process at the same time as migrating creates risk. We help you distinguish the improvements worth making during the migration from those better handled as continuous improvement after go-live, so the programme stays deliverable.
